Born in Ismailia, Reda Abdelrahman is a contemporary Egyptian painter whose work moves between ancient visual traditions and modern life. His paintings, murals and mosaics draw on the landscapes and communities of the Nile Valley, finding a sense of continuity between Egypt’s long history and its present.
Background and education
Abdelrahman studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Minya University, graduating in 1988. He went on to complete a master’s degree in mural painting at Helwan University in 1995 and a PhD in Fine Arts at Minya University in 1999.
Creative direction
His work brings together Pharaonic references, decorative motifs and hieroglyphic forms with scenes of contemporary Egyptian life. Agriculture, the Nile Valley, family and the female figure recur throughout his practice. The result is an expressive visual language that treats heritage as something living rather than distant.
