Chadi Adib Salama is a Cairo-born visual artist, curator and educator whose practice crosses the boundaries between graphic art, bookmaking, installation and public projects. He is interested in how images and familiar visual languages can communicate ideas beyond the walls of a gallery.
Background and education
Born in Cairo in 1980, Salama graduated from Helwan University’s Faculty of Education – Art and Culture in 2002. He completed a master’s degree in 2009 and a PhD in 2016, focusing on Coptic icon design and design philosophy. He also teaches decorative design at Helwan University and founded the artist-book studio It Looks Like a Book.
Creative direction
Salama works with accessible materials and recognisable visual forms, using artist books, painting, video, performance and interactive installations. His projects often consider time, human experience, dreams and the circulation of knowledge. Public participation and the relationship between art and everyday life are central to his approach.
